E.S.I.S.S.A. (Eastern Suburbs Independent Schools Sports Association) began in 1988. Three Jewish schools (Moriah, Mount Sinai and Emanuel) started a small interschool competition to lift the profile of sport.
By the early 1990s, the Association had grown to include all Jewish schools and some other local independent schools. In 1996, E.S.I.S.S.A. was incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1984 (Department of Fair Trading), and a name change to A.S.I.S.S.A. was made in July 1997 under the Associations Incorporation Act (Department of Fair Trading).
Law Firm - Heaney, Richardson and Nemes - arranged the incorporation. Schools affiliated were from all regions of Sydney, and it was felt that the ‘Eastern’ was no longer appropriate.
In 1997, A.S.I.S.S.A. affiliated with the New South Wales Combined Independent Schools allowing our students from many schools access higher levels of sport and competition.
A.S.I.S.S.A. is now one of 8 primary associations affiliated with the NSWCIS and has a 22-school membership.
A.S.I.S.S.A. although as one entity, has two ‘divisions’; viz. an interschool competition and carnival division.
